Bubble plot

A bubble plot adds a third dimension to a scatter by sizing each point from a numeric column, with bubble area rescaled linearly to a 6–32 px band.

What is Bubble plot?

A bubble plot adds a third numeric dimension to a scatter via the marker size. Standard use: x = independent variable, y = dependent variable, size = sample size or another quantity per point. Encoding via area (not radius) is perceptually more accurate.

When should I use Bubble plot?

  • Three-variable visualisations where the third is a magnitude (per-point n, weight, exposure).
  • Reporting study-level results in a meta-analysis where bubble size = inverse variance.

What data does it need?

X + Y + size column + optional grouping.

What does it report?

ECharts scatter with three-value tooltip + summary of the size range.

How do I interpret the result?

Constant-size data collapses to the midpoint of the band — the chart still draws but loses its bubble-ness.
